Committed to the God of Israel, a ministry established in Great Britain honors Jewish Roots of Christianity.

About a hundred years before the rebirth of Israel, the first evangelical church in the Middle East was founded in Jerusalem by CMJ Israel. Still active today, it is one of the highlights for Christian visitors in the Old City.

Maybe you have also stopped by for a cup of coffee at the café adjacent to the famous Christ Church?

Established by the Church’s Ministry among Jewish people (CMJ Israel), the Anglican church right inside the Jaffa Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City is the home of several local congregations. But also, the Shoresh Tours travel company and a Guest House.

Additionally, the venue frequently hosts musical and educational events that draw audiences of all backgrounds.

The three-fold purpose of CMJ Israel is to:

  1. Inform the gentile church of their Jewish roots,
  2. Serve and honor the Jewish people,
  3. Promote the spiritual restoration of the Body in Israel.

This commitment to Biblical instructions enables CMJ Israel to represent the love of God to the people of Israel. And they do so with great success.

They are not wasting any time. That is to say, they opened retreat centers across the country and run a highly-rated international school in Jerusalem.

Christ Church has adorned Jerusalem’s landscape for about 170 years now. Which means, it has been a silent witness to some major historical events.

In the course of its existence, Eliezer Ben Yehuda came to the land, to essentially resurrect the Hebrew language.

The first wave of European Jews returned to the land, escaping the rise of the Nazism. Then, after the Balfour Declaration, the British took over control over the region, including Jerusalem.

Through it all, Christ Church has stood strong.

Other historical sites were built soon after. These include the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus and the famous King David Hotel outside the Old City walls.

After the establishment of Israel, the Anglican sanctuary has survived – thankfully without much damage – the Independence War, the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War.

Christians Bless Israel

Not once did these Christians waver in their love for God and for the people of Israel. Over the years, CMJ Israel’s ministry continues to be driven by the call of Isaiah to comfort God’s people and prepare the way of the Lord.

The goal is for the glory of the Lord to be revealed and for all people to see it together (Isaiah 40: 1-5). Christ Church in Jerusalem plans on faithfully continuing its operations until that day comes.
