Spreading the Good News in Israel
Whether you’ve been to Jerusalem a handful of times or you come back every year, there is something captivating about that first look at the Jerusalem Old City walls. You’re tired, because you traveled for hours, but just a glimpse of the golden rocks makes you feel alive again.
This magnificent view will greet you as you stand at the door of a one of a kind bookstore, connecting the Old City with the modern city.
Ran by the Bible Society of Israel, the bookstore makes biblical literature accessible to anyone in search of Truth.
The Bible promises that out of Jerusalem the Word of the Lord will spread to the ends of the earth. In the same verse, the prophet Isaiah says,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” Isaiah 2:3
No other place in the world gets mentioned so often in both the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures – the Old and New Testament – as much as Jerusalem. Revered equally by Jews and Christians, it is recognized as the city that God chose for His name before all generations.
The Bible Society of Israel an institution dedicated to spreading the Word of God to all people in the land.
Officially registered a year after the rebirth of Israel, in 1949, the pioneer work of spreading the Word of God in the Holy Land was already well underway for over a century! Today it is managed by local believers and serves communities of all backgrounds – whether they are speakers of Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, English or other.
With centrally located stores also in Tel Aviv and Haifa, the Bible Society of Israel works with a network of distributors and vendors throughout the whole country. The owners admit:
“From a commercial point of view, [the bookstores] should be shut down. But from a spiritual point of view, these bookstores are the way we can accomplish our mission of making God’s Word available, understandable, and affordable.”
But the Bible Society of Israel can be proud of their latest product that is bound to be a blessing to people both in Israel and abroad.
The Jerusalem Illustrated Bible seeks to illustrate the truth of God’s word from an authentically Jewish artistic perspective.
With side-by-side Hebrew and English texts, it is illustrated by Elhanan ben-Avraham, a Messianic Jewish artist living in the Holy Land.
